Herpes Inside the Mouth

My little boy has got a horrible cold sore in his mouth (on his lower gum).

The pediatrician can't do anything about it other than give him antiviral medication.

I hate the idea of dosing my child with chemicals. Is there any kind of natural medication I can use?
